Eco labels - a sustainable solution for our planet

Eco labels - a sustainable solution for our planet

Eco-friendly labelsIn the last few years, the packaging and labelling industries have been faced with many different challenges. They include the need to develop new technologies and materials to produce more environmentally friendly products and sustainable labels. Although labels are a small part of the packaging, they play an important role in reducing the negative impact on the environment.

Dilcom offers a wide range of eco-friendly products and services for different applications and industries such as:

  • recyclable and recycled labels
  • easily removable labels
  • stickers made from sustainable materials created to the FSC standard
  • and many other labels developed by Avery Dennison, Raflatac and Fedrigoni.

AD RDX™

Our partner Avery Dennison offers an innovative line of high quality AD RDX products. They significantly reduce the use of natural resources - less oil, water, wood, energy and carbon emissions. This sustainable product range includes:

  • Semi-gloss paper labels;
  • Variable (consumer) information labels for direct thermal and thermal transfer printing;
  • Flexible films for soft packaging that can be adapted to the shape of the product;
  • Harder film labels

These different types of eco labels are used in the food industry, transport and logistics, retail, medicine and more.

Paper labels on rPET backing (recycled PET material)

This sustainable solution from Avery Dennison is a very suitable choice for high-speed labelling. The rPET backing is thin and light, providing efficiency, sustainability and high performance. Paper labels on rPET liners have many benefits such as:

  • High strength and moisture resistance;
  • Suitable for high speed labelling for a wide range of applications;
  • rPET23 produces less waste and allows for more labels per roll and less frequent roll changes;
  • rPET liners contain 30% recycled materials.

Recycable labels and stickersRecyclable labels

Another green solution that Dilcom offers are recycable labels -stickers made from special materials that can be recycled. Recyclable labels allow the reuse of materials and using less natural resources during production. This helps to reduce waste and protect the environment.

Easily removable labels

Labels with easily removable adhesive are used for temporary labeling and product identification. They are most useful when manufacturers want the labels to be quickly and easily removable. When these labels are placed on your packaging ( e.g. a bottle/jar), your customers can quickly remove it and reuse the packaging. In this way, you promote the reuse of materials and the circular economy.

Labels from recycled materials

Dilcom produces special textile, paper and foil labels from certified recycled materials. Recycled labels are used as labels for clothing, mattresses, textiles, medicine, cosmetics, food and much more.

Labels made with CleanFlake™ materials

These labels are specially made by Avery Dennison for use with recyclable PET packaging. Labels made with CleanFlake™ materials perform the same functions as a regular self adhesive label. However they guarantee that your PET packaging will be fully recycled. They also use a special adhesive technology that allows easy removal of the label during the recycling process.

FSC® labels

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) is an independent, non-profit, non governmental organization. It ensures that wood and paper products bearing the FSC® logo come from an environmentally friendly source.

Dilcom Bulgaria produces labeling products that meet the FSC® standard (license code C150329). They are made only from sustainably sourced wood, which helps protect and preserve forests, wildlife and people.

Sustainable labels made with UPM Raflatac materials

UPM Raflatac offers a wide range of sustainable label materials. They use fewer natural resources and have a lower environmental impact than traditional label materials. UPM's eco line of product categories includes:

  • Labels made from recycled paper, plastic and other materials
  • Lightweight, thin film, paper and carrier liners
  • 100% wood-based label material
  • Water-soluble labels that promote a circular economy, and much more.

FSC labelsFedrigoni eco solutions

In recent years, the company has developed many new products through more eco-friendly processes. Fedrigoni uses FSC pulp, 100% recycled and recyclable materials, and bio-based raw materials. They also make use of materials made from natural sources such as cotton, sugarcane and grass.

Another one of their innovative solutions is siliconised label liners, which can be recycled and reused for lamination or as new material. Fedrigoni also offer a patented solution for wet wipes made from the same PPE or PE material as the rest of the packaging. This solution significantly helps to recycle the whole package.

Additional tips

Consider the adhesive: there are many different types of label adhesives - some are stronger, others are more eco-friendly. Try to choose a strong enough adhesive that is also biodegradable or compostable.

Use a label applicator: label applicators boost efficiency and accuracy when applying labels to products. They can also help you reduce the amount of waste that results from errors during hand labelling. Waste reduction is a very important part of the circular economy.

Conclusion

A large number of consumers take into account the sustainability standard of a product and its packaging when making consumer choices. If you make environmentally preferable and energy efficient choices, your brand will contribute to the protection of nature and better environmental performance. Not only that, you will also gain new customers committed to the cause of conservation.
