New regulation (EU) 2018/775 on labeling food products

Date: 2020-04-09

Нов регламент за етикети на хранителни продукти

A new Regulation (ЕС) 2018/775 is applied laying down the rules for the application of Article 26(3) of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the provision of food information to consumers. The legislation will apply from 1 April 2020

Article 26 of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 requires the indication of the country of origin or place of provenance where its omission could mislead the consumer as to the true country of origin or place of provenance of the final food in question, in particular if the information accompanying the food or the label as a whole would otherwise imply that the food has a different country of origin or place of provenance.

Some EU Member States, including Bulgaria, have proposed a delay to the entry into force of the Regulation. The EC decision is expected.

It is necessary to provide time during which the available labels and packaging should be used. Food products placed on the market or labeled before the date of application of this Regulation may be sold until stocks are sold out.
